Although I’m sure most of you already know, I wanted to share the news that Derek and I are building a house! We’re super excited for this next step and to see our dream home come to life!
We listed our current home up for sale in October this past fall and we now are working towards a closing date on the sale of that home. This means we can start focusing on the new home! We have truly enjoyed our current home and adding our little touches to it, but we always knew we eventually wanted to design and build our dream home. We never quite knew it was in the realm of possibilities to happen this soon, but here we go!
The new home will be located in Mapleton, North Dakota. A smaller community just outside of West Fargo, ND) We have decided to go with a rambler style and only ONE level with absolutely no stairs. This took me some time convincing Derek we could get along without a basement, but a simple “this means you could extend your garage to allow for extra storage” to get him to agree. After all, the new garage is just shy of 1,000 sq.ft.!
We started planning the new house this past fall (2019) after MUCH research on local builders. We finally landed with Verity Homes. The moment we first contacted them to check them out to-date they have been absolutely INCREDIBLE! The whole team is super nice, and always helpful with any and all questions you have during the process.
I plan to blog the entire build journey now that we’re getting closer to start date of construction so make sure to check back often for new posts!
So my intention for this blog/website is to share food recipes, happenings in Derek and I’s life, decorating and crafts. Well I guess this one would go along the lines of happenings in our life.
We have put our current home up for sale. Derek and I knew we always wanted to build our dream home some-day, and well, that time has come. We have absolutely LOVED living in our current home and love everything about it. With that being said, it’s time to move forward and keep pushing for our dreams to come true.
If you know anyone looking in the West Fargo area, look no further. We have truly loved this home and given it some great upgrades! We built a deck on the back of the house, landscaped, put in a fireplace feature wall in the living room area, painted some walls and some other work around the home making it the beautiful place we call home at this time.
We appreciate it! Also, I hope you’re all ready for a TON of posts in the near future hopefully with updates on construction etc. of the new home. Pending the sale of our current home, we should start construction in the spring of 2020.
First I want to start off by saying, this isn’t a product review blog, however when we find a product we like, we just might recommend it for our followers and their homes.
I love the look of mulch in landscaping, however one of the downfalls is how incredibly fast it fades. Even when it says it’s guaranteed for a a year plus, we all know that just isn’t the case. Well we found this product to give it a try at Menards. Needless to say, we were both very impressed with it. Super easy to put on, and way cheaper than going out and buying a bunch of new bags of mulch to refresh it.
Pretty sure we’ll be buying this again in the spring to refresh it after the long North Dakota winter. 🙂 I bottle covered all of our mulch, and if you’ve seen our landscaping, we actually have quite a bit!
So I started taking a look back and seeing what posts I may have missed over the last year, and this was a BIG one on my list for multiple reasons.
Anyone that knows us, knows that we like to enjoy many evenings outside. Well in our current home there was no deck built on when we moved in, the only area to really spend outside was in front by our garage or our small entryway patio area. So we took on a big project and built a deck. Many HUGE thanks to Derek’s dad Noel for all his crazy hard work helping two guys that have never built anything really before accomplish this beautiful deck. We enjoy it almost daily now. Here’s just a few photos from the build to enjoy.
Derek and I never seem to rest! I seem to have got quite good at installing new light fixtures with this home. So far we’ve replaced all exterior lighting and now we’ve moved onto the inside. This time replacing the chandelier in our dining room. What do you think? We’ve been eying this light fixture for quite some time now, so I’m happy to have it finally.
Here’s another photo of the whole dining room now. 🙂
And of course, I have to try and get creative with the camera. Close up of the bulbs that are in it.
Derek got creative on our day off together. Say hello to the newest addition to our outdoor space. A pallet bar! Made with two pallets, a few spare boards we had around the house and 3 paver stones. I think we can consider this one a success!
